01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Diners say the wagashi at Jyukou melt away so lightly that the sweetness of the bean paste never feels heavy. Choose the seasonal assortment to enjoy a range of textures, along with refined sweetness and fragrance in each piece.
Warabi mochi is described by some as a signature item. Its tender, almost melting dough also has a springy, resilient bite, while the moist strained bean paste inside is said to disappear gently on the palate. An assorted selection of seasonal sweets is another option if you would like to sample a little of everything.
The chestnut kinton reportedly contains pieces of chestnut, while one chestnut-shaped sweet was made with a whole chestnut, skin and all, wrapped in a thin layer of white bean paste. Some visitors have reported that the sweets they wanted had sold out to advance orders by the time they arrived, so it may be worth checking about reservations ahead of time if you have a particular item in mind.
